Preparations to open the site are underway
It’s getting closer by the minute, opening weekend that is. Not long till the 1st weekend in March. So what’s been happening as we get ready to open?
The major emphasis this winter has been to de-clog (is that a word?) the ditches, particularly on East River. Those camping on East River sites this year will notice how well drained they are.
As you will see from the photos getting the ditches clear is a fun job. Anyone wanting to help you are very welcome and as an added bonus… free of charge… you can have a mud bath!
The car park has also been spruced up with purpose built planters marking out the roadways. They’ll look good once the plants start to grow.
We’ve also built a pedestrian path from the main carpark to camp centre. This will make it safer to get our young people off the carpark.
We’ve improved the lighting in both main toilet blocks, and undertaken a major – but hidden – project to improve the freshwater supply.
We have also built a new Mini Crossbow Range in camp centre.
A lot more has been done by our team of volunteers and all the Explorer Scouts who have been on site over the winter – a major thanks to all involved!
Signs of spring are appearing with the arrival of the first snowdrops and daffodils. By the time we open they will be in full bloom and make the place look really good.
That’s all for now, but please have a think about whether you could help out at the site. We are always looking for volunteers to help as wardens, ground staff or with maintenance of the buildings. No qualifications needed – although always welcome – just that you are enthusiastic. If you are interested get in touch:
Keep your eyes open for further info as we start our new season. We’ll see you on site in 2023!
